Looming in the Shadows of Łódź

This series weaves together film clips, photographs, and oral history narratives to reveal how memories and stories of the Shoah affect multiple generations of one family. On the 75th anniversary of our relatives' deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau from the Łódź ghetto—the last one to be liquidated by the Nazis in 1944, we traveled to Poland and traced their footsteps.

Portfolio Series

On a roots trip to Poland, the son of Holocaust survivors telephones his aunt—the only relative still alive to pinpoint locations and share memories. Later on, the two pour over the pictures from the journey while the nonagenarian fulfills the Jewish commandment, L'haggid. “And you should tell your children.”
